: This part was, as noted, coverage of Mike
: playing "Doom" against pretty much
: all comers, with Paul hosting and Jim &
: Kevin assisting the contestants, a few of
: whom (like me) had no knowledge of the game.

You mean a recent playing, or something recorded from 10
years ago? Does anyone still even play that now? I remember
seeing it played on a Linux PC, before there was even Window95
being sold. I know basically how it's played. But I've
never had any interest in playing it. Any more than I the
slightest interest in wasting time in these virtual world
simulation that I'm now here about. You know the one with
the "Linden dollars" for currency. One should earn those cyber
dollars just for spending any amount of one's real life
playing that thing. And I mean huge amounts of Lindens. Like
a thousand per hour. But I understand they actually charge
real dollars for Linden dollars. That's rich! All someone
as rich as Bill Gates has to do is drop a million bucks onto
its server, and buy out the whole realm. But that's not
going to happen, because no one who's self-made, it that
stupid. So it's a game for the hardcore addicted gamers, who
can't deal with the real world. You know, they should set up
some cheap PCes in prison, and let those guys do their thing
in some cyber world of their own. Then maybe they'd learn
some social interaction skills that don't involve busting
heads or sticking shives into each other. The outside world
seems to be "Ok" with school kids playing Doom-like FPS
games, in practice for gunning down their classmates.
No one should be playing these time wasters, that doesn't
have the freedom and choice to do anything better with
their life. It might be Ok in very small doses. But not
hours at a time. I never liked playing anything more envolving
that Space Invaders or Dig Dug. As soon as those multi-level
games started being the norm, I gave up on the whole thing.
