: All in all, “The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll
: & Mr. Hyde” is a fairly good adaptation
: of a very familiar story. I recommend
: giving it a look.
Though I've never seen all the J&H adapts. I'd have to say that they generally run fairly faithful. And occasionally good. If only I could say the same of the Sherlock Holmes movies. There are some very dreadful ones of those. Especially any that imply that the main characters are gay. Whether seriously or not. A comical/satirical Holmes adventure rarely works. And ever since Jerry Brett did Holmes for Granada Tv. It's going to be awfully hard to best his portrayal. PBS's last recasting was the same actor who played the heavy in "Dunston Checks In" (thee best Ape movie??), Rupert Everett. In "Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking", the new John Watson character was actually more interesting. Ian Hart played the same role in the earlier "The Hound of the Baskervilles" adaptation, which was excellent. And William Harrison, in the docu-drama "Longitude". Plus a role in a Harry Potter movie.
I thought I saw an advanced ad for a new PBS Holmes movie. But so far nothing has been announced. If it's Rupert again, I hope he doesn't play Holmes so dull and humorless.
