: anyone remember Joe Bob Briggs and MonsterVision, bumpered
: movies on TBS, etc.)
I do. So what do I win? Yes, cable has systematically strived to eliminate all the good ideas it ever had, or played host to, so that everything is blandly the same. Hardly anyone or anything stands out as original or cool. It made their clueless marketting and programming execs nervous. But drugged up, half-wit, teenage freaks, they understand.
: BTW, I haven't read through the board's
: latest offerings, but any advice/thoughts on
: the latest adventures of Mike, the Bots,
: and/or BBI? Is Rifftrax worth the $$
There's also The Film Crew's releases, which are kind of MSTish in spirit. The movies aren't cut down to fit the Tv timeslot, minus Host Segments. But there are no cute bots or the SoL set. Rifftraks is simply the riffing, minus the "shadowrama" trick. But the upside is that the movie rights didn't have to be paid for, so the "new material" ends up costing a lot less, than if they actually had to pay the rights for the movies they were poking fun of.
Don't forget that The Movie version of MST3k just got rereleased onto DVD. No extras, but still not bad for the price.
In nine years time I expect we'll see something new. Like MST3k on CD roms, that interact with a DVD played on one's PC. Then we'll have most of what made the show special. And they still won't have to secure the movie rights. But I suspect that the laws will have been changed by then to include supplemental materials. If anything new makes enough money, the corporate media lawyers will decend upon it like vultures.
