: And this week's selection is...
:
: "Phase IV" (Show K-9)
As noted, this is one weird movie. It seems unusual solar activity has caused common ants to band together and try to take over. And the only ones who seem to notice are a nutty scientist (Nigel Davenport) and a saner scientist (Michael Murphy). It's got an impressive visual sense (courtesy of director Saul Bass, best known for title sequences), but it is just too odd for my tastes.
As for the ep, as usual for the KTMAs, Servo has most of the best lines (as J.Elvis was the best ad-libber), but the riffing is pretty good all around. The host segs also feel largely ad-libbed (including Joel's rendition of "Wipeout"), although they do include some early dissing of Asimov.
Oh, and my copy also includes three local commercials: one for Joel's stand-up act (narrated by Kevin), one for a travel agency (with Kevin as an actor) and one with Forrester & Ehrhardt pitching for Pizza & Pasta.
Not too bad this week...
