: Actually, you're probably on track with this
: one. It does seem like we're getting more
: advanced technology bringing us
: less-advanced product. But, then, that's
: been the way of things since the days when
: color TV was futuristic.
:
Actually it goes back farther than that. Most of the great classic plays were written (and first performed) when there were only stages for the public to experience them by. Since then, the quality of the writing has gone down hill, in accordance to the material's exposure medium.
I just watched part one of NBC's "The Last Templar". And I have to say I was fairly disappointed at its rather mediocre plot. Especially the way they have the police and FBI agents just standing around waiting for Mira Sorvino to do her Indiana Jones impression. I had figured out, half way thru the first part, that the Monsignor was employing the hitman. That doesn't speak well of a story, when its major plot complications are so easily guessed at.
: I'm not familiar with the one network you
: mentioned, but I've at least heard of
: RetroTV. Unfortunately, there are several
: networks I wish my cable company would pick
: up (like Boomerang) that they don't seem
: inclined to. My Mom just got a satellite
: dish; I'll check and see what she has now.
:
I once felt that way about The Hallmark Channel, because it carried a better selection of Disney movies, than the dedicated Disney Channel did. But as soon as Hallmark got into more markets, the quality began to slip. So now I couldn't care less about it.
: A whole network dedicated to MST3K?
: Hmmm....
:
Don't we wish. Maybe not an entire network dedicated to it. But at least a new network willing to rerun most of the old episodes. If not have new ones made. Considering the costs of producing shows like CSI Miami, and Boston Legal. Or even "Deal or No Deal". MST3k should still be a lot cheaper to make. I doubt that the BBI crew ever got paid what Howie Mandel must be making.
The biggest expense of the series was probably the movies' leasing fees. Which has only gone up, due to speculation in movie rights renewals. Our
US Congress killed the public domain status of old movies and songs. That would seem to me to be the single biggest stumbling block to getting MST3k back in production. I wonder if Obama was a fan of the show?
