: And this week's selection is...
:
: "Cinematic Titanic: The Wasp
: Woman"
As noted, I hadn't seen this one before, riffed or unriffed. In any case, I was looking forward to it and wasn't disappointed.
Directed by Roger Corman, "The Wasp Woman" has pretty much the same story as "The Leech Woman", MSTed during the TSNWSRN days. An aging woman tries to restore her beauty via means that quickly turn deadly and ultimately don't work out. It's pretty much typical Corman; it's OK as long as you're not expecting a classic.
The riffing was fine, as is par for the course with CT. There are two host segs, one is movie-based and one is from way out of left field. I don't want to spoil it too much, so I'll leave you to see them for yourself.
One interesting note: this one had a disclaimer on the box and in the production itself about how the movie had been altered from its original form. I don't know if this has appeared on any other CT disc, but I haven't seen it on any MST3K item. I think it might refer to a prologue added to the movie (for TV showings) after Corman had already finished it. At least, I think that's it.
This one turned out pretty good, actually.
