Well, first of all, Eddie Murphy does indeed refrain from the fat suit for this one.

I haven't seen the originial script (though, for all I know, it may be on the 'Net somewhere), so I can't say how much of Bill's original idea remains in the final product. Thus, I can only go by what I saw. On that score, the movie isn't too bad.

Murphy does a good job in what is essentially a double role, and there are some funny moments throughout. On the other hand, there are plot developments you can see coming three miles away, and the movie ends on a pretty unresolved note (for a sequel, perhaps?).

I guess what I'm saying is that I've seen funnier movies with Eddie Murphy (like "Bowfinger"), but I've also seen much worse ("Best Defense", for example). "Meet Dave", by comparison, is pretty much OK.

I am wondering, though, if this'll ever end up on Rifftrax.
