: Anyway, the Outsiders selection
: is..."Three Stooges in Color"
: (with intros by the Film Crew)
This is a collection of four public domain (I think) Stooge shorts. There's one Curly ("Disorder in the Court") and three Shemps ("Sing a Song of Six Pants", "Malice in the Palace" and "Brideless Groom"), and all have been colorized. (Remember when that was the big thing?) Anyway, all four are OK. While they aren't the best the Stooges ever did (that would be "You Nazty Spy"), they're pretty funny if you like slapstick (which I do, when it's done well).
The Film Crew intros are good, though I disagree with their disdain for Shemp. (I reserve that for Joe Besser; I prefer him on "Abbott & Costello"). The guys address Moe's violent nature and women's perceived dislike for the Stooges. And Kevin is in drag, briefly.
: Originals selection is..."Rocket Attack
: U.S.A." (Show 205).
This stern Cold War warning features some pretty inept secret agents, heavy paranoia, a low regard for non-military spending by the U.S. Government, and a brief appearance by Art Metrano. The movie posits that the U.S. defense against and response to a Russian nuclear attack is all-but-useless; not exactly an uplifting message. Curtis LeMay must've hated this flick.
The ep, though, is a good one. The riffing is great, especially the parody of the golf-coverage narration. The host segments are unusually political, but all work great, particularly Mike as the friendly cosmonaut. By the way, did Joel do the artist's renderings for the "McCarthy hearings" bit? They're quite good.
Good results this time. How about you?
Watch out for snakes.
