: Anyway, for the Outside Stuff, the selection
: is..."Life After MST3K: Frank
This special feature on the "Samson and the Vampire Women" DVD only runs about 11 minutes, but it's very informative. Frank talks about the stuff he's worked on, including stuff I knew about ("Sabrina" and "Invader Zim"), and some podcasts I wasn't aware of. He also talks about his work with CT, and his fond memories of his MST days. This was recorded before his most recent work: his teaming with Trace on "Movie Sign with the Mads" and their "The Mads" touring show.
:And for the Original Stuff,
: I'm going outside the rotation on Oscar
: Night for..."The Academy of Robots
: Choice Award Special". And for the
: second feature, I'm going with..."The
: Oscar", the notoriously bad potboiler
: with Stephen Boyd going to any length for
: one of those statuettes.
The show's second Oscar special was a good one, featuring their first attempt at riffing "Titanic" and "Starship Troopers". The riffing on those and the other nominees was very funny. Now we just have to get Al Gore to order the new guys to do another one next year.
As for "The Oscar", it's an over-the-top classic Hollywood cautionary tale, with all the soapy, overwrought baggage that entails. Stephen Boyd dominates the movie as Frank Fain, a total sleazy jerk (though they say it's all due to childhood trauma) who alienates everyone. The last scene makes up for his attitude, and I swear I didn't choose this because I knew about the unpleasantness at the Oscars.
Well, that turned out OK. Though I didn't get to the Governor's Ball.
Watch out for snakes.
