: is...'Super Secret Movie Rules:
: Slashers" (featuring Mike)...
This is an episode of a short-lived VH-1 series in which they looked at a particular genre of movies and had guests comment on the "rules" for each genre. This one focused on slasher movies, with comments from Mike, along with guests like Wes Craven, John Carpenter and a few stand-up comedians I didn't recognize. The "rules" were rather obvious (like "Slashers always have their own theme music", "The killer can't be killed"), as were the choice of films to focus on (like "Halloween" and "Friday the 13th", but not "Psycho"). I guess it was OK, but Mike is the main reason to watch it.

: is..."The Painted Hills" (Show
The opening short, "Body Care & Grooming", was OK, though I'm sure we all sat through something like it back in Middle School. As for "Painted Hills", it's kind of jarring to see Lassie chasing a man to his well-deserved death. And that's not even getting into themes of murder, attempted murder, greed, depression and paranoia. It's a pretty good movie, but, in retrospect, it's a bit heavy.
The riffing was great, though. The host segments were funny, as well. I particularly liked Servo's gold-fevered ravings. I also liked the Invention Exchange, though recent events made me wince a little at Frank's fate.
Okay, that's my view. What's yours?
Watch out for snakes.
