: I'm going outside the rotation for both
: selections again. For the Outside Stuff,
: it's..."The Mads are Back" (Live
: at the Colonial Theater, Phoenixville, PA)
Back in the day, I'd do a whole article on this. I hope you don't mind if I pare it down a bit.
I was very glad to hear that not only were Trace & Frank going to be appearing within driving distance, but that they'd be at the Colonial. I've been there many times, particularly for BlobFest in July. So, after seeing my brother Bruce graduate from college, I drove over to Phoenixville.
The show was great! After a cool, U.N.C.L.E.-inspired opening, the Mads proceeded to riff on a short ("Office Etiquette") and the Ed Wood non-classic "Glen or Glenda". The jokes were great, and the live audience reaction made things even better. Away from TV's restrictions, the jokes were also more political (Frank is no fan of the President) and more adult. (Word to the wise: leave the youngsters at home.)
After that, the guys did a Q&A with the audience, ranging from the usual ("What's your favorite episode?) to the less-so ("You don't really want to decide who lives and who dies, do you?). Frank & Trace were very friendly and very appreciative. I understand they were also this way during a meet & greet before the show, but I didn't go there. (I've found that, when talking to celebrities, I sound more like an idiot than usual. Which is saying a lot.)
Anyway, I had a great time. I've heard they'll be doing their show this fall in Bethlehem, PA, so I'm hoping I'll catch it again.
: and for the Original Stuff we continue with
: the new season for..."The Land that
: Time Forgot" (Show 1107).
And, the countdown.
And we're back.
The movie is actually good. I'd seen it before on TV several times, and I liked it. It's a pretty well-made adventure story, with a good script and acting. Sure, the effects can be cheesy, but I've seen much worse. And Doug McClure is a likable lead.
The guys did a good job of riffing on this one, with the jokes well-paced. The host segs were OK, especially the jingle for the new Moon 13 dino restaurant. And, while they had to cut a chunk from the movie, at least they acknowledge what's missing.
A good two-fer this time. Your thoughts?
Watch out for snakes.
