: is..."RT Live: The Five Doctors"
: (which is happening tonight)
I was a bit apprehensive about this one. I wasn't sure how well it could be riffed, since someone unfamiliar with the show would be quite lost. Turns out I shouldn't have worried; they did great. They focused on the cheesy stuff (like Sarah Jane and the "cliff") and the obvious stuff (like Richard "Dr. Dick Sargent" Hurndall), and left the plot points be. They also threw in a British-made short ("Play Safe") which was like the U.K.'s answer to "Shake Hands with Danger". Great stuff.

: Original Stuff selection is..."Swamp
: Diamonds" (Show 503).
Well, the opening short, "What to Do on a Date", was one of the better ones. It's dated attitudes and surroundings, along with great riffing, made it really work. However, "Swamp Diamonds" was far too padded and kind of dull. Yes, there were strong female characters, a moody title sequence, and Beverly Garland was great, but that only goes so far. Roger Corman did better movies elsewhere.
The host segments, with Tom's ill-fated date, were funny (even if the resolution struck close to home for me), and I liked the Invention Exchange.
Well, that was generally OK. Anyone else watch these?
Watch out for snakes.
