This year was horribly WET! It has rained more than it has been nice, and I've even asked if we're living in Seattle and instead of So. Dakota!
So shoe's popped off constantly, and there isn't anything we can do about it. I recently had 2 days off and wanted to go riding, and of course- Pepsi lost a shoe. Some of you may remember from way back when I lived in Wisconsin, my farrier didn't listen and Pepsi split all the way up into her coronary band. I lost a year of riding- she simply got to be momma.
Since then the hoof is well healed, but there is a permanent scar/weak area where the split is, so I have to be extremely diligent with trimming and shoeing.
Well, that is the hoof she lost the shoe on, but I REALLY wanted to ride. So I tried it, she managed to do 2 miles. I felt terrible for asking her to do it- which she did willingly, but UGH! I didn't push her, and it started to crack..... Farrier came out the other day and re-set AGAIN! So she is all wheeled up and good to go again- but I don't have any days off for a good 10 days- grrrr!
It is inevitable that that particular issue is going to raise it's ugly head in the future- now matter how careful I am.
So I am back to my initial problem- Breed her or not?
I've found a few good stallions that I like (and I am da_n picky.)
But on this particular one, I don't know anything about his bloodlines. He is as old fashioned as they get- not my color (bay overo), but he is the quality and body style I desire. Some of you may laugh, the other one I like is a Bay tobiano- figure that one out- LOL!
I am not worried about his height, Pepsi keeps ALL her foals short.
But could someone look him up in APHA if it doesn't cost anything?
