Is he learning reining moves AND cow stuff? I know at 8 months, Dallas was stopping really good, changing leads pretty consistently, spinning correctly at about half speed, and umm... learning to carry himself pretty consistently in a collected frame.
I'd guess he should be pretty well going, but not finished in any of the maneuvers probably.
On cattle, I'd think he'd be tracking them with purpose, and his stops on the cows should be straight and his rollbacks clean, not wallowing around the ends.
