IF the stallion is homozygous for black, carries agouti, and has a cream gene, he's not smoky black. He's buckskin.
If he looks smoky black, it could be that he is just very sooty.
Congrats on the horses doing so well with their training, I know it has to be a huge relief to you to be getting them started!
