Oh Leigh, someday you'll get yourself a digital...they have some pretty reasonable Rebels out there right now. The Canon Rebel T3 is the current entry level camera......here is a link to read about it:

I can't help you with the film questions that you have Leigh as I was just TERRIBLE with film and am so glad that I was able to move on to digital.......I don't think that I'd be still taking photos if I had to continue to use my 35mm film camera.....
Maybe someone else will be able to answer your questions about film.
