The poem is about Eliot finding faith. Woodthrush is a North American songthrush. Like the songthrush it sings in the fog. I take the "I made this etc." as Eliot's self-dissatisfaction and reaching towards a new way of living. The reference to his daughter is a reference to the purest form of love - parental.
