i agree with Midge, smoking is a personal choice and one that i think one makes when they see others smoking. When growing up Mom and my Aunt smoked and this prompted my sisters to start; they didn't start at 10 but by 15 they were smokers. My Mom and Aunt felt that they enjoyed smoking and that it was something they'd share with us if we decided to smoke - my sisters did but i didn't at the time. When they were ready my Aunt taught them to smoke... besides being enjoyable it does impart an air of maturity and sophistication
