The agreement between Columbus City Schools and Ohio State University and the University Community/University Area Commission for the sale of the Indianola Building at 420 East 19th Ave to OSU is under discussion tomorrow (Tuesday April 17th) at the Columbus Board of Education, 270 East State Street. It was thought this was a settled matter last year.
If an agreement can't be reached to complete the sale to OSU, the property could again be up for sale, on the auction block to the highest bidder, the building and 11 acres.
The building is in severe deterioration from neglect while this process has languished. The problem seems to be in the Memorandum of Agreement between the parties over who would have the right to provide educational programming. This future is still in the making among the school board, OSU, and the community/UAC, but CCS wants the agreement to allow only CCS to have this control.
If you are able, please plan on coming to 270 East State Street tomorrow (Tuesday, April 17th). Parking is available on site. Suggested time is 5:30 - though last on agenda currently - it could be moved up. If you wish to speak, and cannot arrive at that time, please call customer service at the board and let them know.
This school is on the National Historic Register and the City of Columbus Register of Historic Places.
Presence in numbers could make a difference. Thank you most kindly for your consideration of this matter.
