We mailed gift certificates to my family year before last in their Christmas cards because we couldn't get up there and they wanted big stuff that was expensive to ship. They took four weeks to get delivered. I am hoping to go up to my mother's and have Christmas with her and my siblings after Christmas so I didn't mail her a gift this year but I did want to send her a card. She had also asked for some recipes that she used to have but can't find and she knew that I had copies of. I copied them off and put them in the card, which was the size of a large business envelope almost. My daughter was going to the post office to mail a certified letter for the office one day and I asked her to mail my mother's card. It already had stamps on it. All she had to do was drop it into the chute as she went in. Instead, she hands me a receipt last night and says, "oh, I forgot to give you this, it's where I insured Grandma's gift card."
I just sat there blinking at her which made her launch into a litany of the past Christmas gift cards taking so long and she wanted to make sure it was lost that the cost was covered. I finally broke up laughing and told her that it was just a Christmas card. So it cost $6.80 to mail a Christmas card. At least we will have a funny memory.
