My mother weighed in the 280 at my age, then because of health reasons she lost about 110 pounds. She ended up with a hip implant and they told her that her hip had almost been worn through since she put it off so long so if she gained over 20 pounds it would probably shatter the hip bones. She managed to hang in there and only deviated about 10 pounds either way for years now. This last time she was sick she lost about 45 more pounds. Even being in such fragile health she has been able to put on her shoes and socks, cut her own toenails, bend over to pick up things, sit on fragile chairs and a whole lot of other things that she wasn't able to do until now. It is also much easier to take care of her and when she falls my husband just picks her up easily. Before we had to call EMTs to pick her up when she fell because none of us could do it. With a little exercise, she could probably get up herself. At her heaviest, she had to be in rehab when she would do things like break bones or have surgery because no one could move her except people with training and it took more than one of them. I just thought it was aging that I have a harder time doing some things now but I realize that it is aging with weight after watching her. It is really a wake up call for me. I hope that I am able to do something about it.
