I am feeling weary. Posted by Beverly on 9/24/2009, 8:54 am But, I know I must push on towards health. I guess I woke up having a 'pity party'. I feel weary of facing foods that are hard to resist, trying to do what it takes to be healthy (food, exercise, etc), measuring, thinking about what I can and can't eat, staying away from trigger foods and all the rest. I am 57 years young and have been fighting this battle for 50 years. Sometimes I feel weary of trying to make it happen. I am proud that I recovered from bulimia (33 years ago since). I even did that on my own - heck people didn't even talk about in the sixties. But, I still can't seem to get that food thing right in my head. Yesterday was a healthy day until the evening. I had a gathering at my house. I put out a huge bowl of strawberries. My friend brought things including brownies. I resisted the brownies - but, it was all that I could think about all evening - the brownies. I ate my strawberries and resisted the brownies. But, I was so, so stressed out from NOT eating the brownies that I overate when she left. It was like a was shaking - waiting for a food fix. Good grief. To you younger friends. NOW is your time - you don't want to be my age and still wondering how to make it happen. Yes, I've had patches of food sanity, lost many pounds recently - but, gained some of it back when I injured my foot, got sick with anemia, and when murray's pay was cut and he eventually was laid off. I will push on and keep trying. But, sometimes I feel weary of it all.  Reply

We all have good days and bad days and days that we just can't muster up the energy. That's ok. As long as we dust ourselves off, pick ourselves up and lean on our great friends here, we're still in this. I've got your back, friend. Just like you always have mine.  Reply

I also know that overcoming it takes lots of grit. Startyourdiet.com has a feature on it called "100 Days of Dieting" It's based on a book. I was thinking that SYD is free, but it does actually have a subscription fee of around $20 for a year and it does NOT renew automatically. 100 days of dieting is really a daily dose of cognitive therapy, and has tasks to accomplish. It's very very very much like the Beck Diet Solution, which I love love love and credit w/ a big chunk of my success. Please don't give up, it's too important at any age! And give yourself credit for having the strawberries there. (you know a good low fat, low cal chocolate fix w/ those? Some sugar free hershy's syrup to dip them in. How could you feel deprived w/ chocolate and strawberries?)  Reply

This reminds me of something... Posted by Gina on 9/24/2009, 9:50 am, in reply to "I am feeling weary." My grandma battled weight loss as long I as ever knew her. She was always either on a diet or off a diet. Eating salads and chicken breasts or nibbling all day from the candy dish she kept next to her recliner and remote for the tv. When she was 83 years old, she had fallen and broken her ankle and had to go a nursing home because she couldn't get around on her own. And one of the male CNA's was getting her out of bed one morning and commented to her "Boy, you are heavier than you look". My grandma refused to eat for 3 days because she had to lose weight. I have always been told that I am just like my grandma. But I DO NOT want to be 83 years old and still thinking/obsessing about food and weight loss. I do not want this struggle my entire life. I wish I could find a way to not think of food unless I was just truly hungry and then think of food as fuel, not enjoyment. I know my whole struggles begins in my mind. If I could just fix that.  Reply
