The easiest way to avoid regrets is to ask yourself this question, "If not now, when?" It's a powerful way to put life and our decisions about how we spend our time into perspective"
Information Session re Knee Surgery

It was excellent - about an hour and a half with a nurse from ortho, a physiotherapist and an occupational therapy person. |
I am able to get free physio sessions since my coverage under Blue Cross (private plan) is almost exhausted so that was excellent news.
Also, I could be out the next day by 11 am. (Imagine?!?!) Nurse said 50% of patients out by next day and most others out by second day.
They said if you have a reason for needing pain medication (narcotic like Morphine or Dilaudid), you will not get addicted (Ray worries about this). Said they only give you enough for 2 weeks anyway.
2-3 months for full recovery.
Glad I got to go!
Im glad you got to go too...

I am sure that it answered many questions and helped to relieve a lot of worries. Did they mention ice cooler therapy? My 83 year old mother got a second knee replacement last year at about the same date you will have yours. They sent her home with an ice cooler that had a small motor and a pad that fastened around her knee that had a tube connected to the cooler. She would freeze several water bottles at a time. Mornings and Evenings my sister would replace frozen bottles in the cooler and put the melted ones in to freeze. That way Mama had cooling to her leg all the time. She had so much fewer problems with swelling and pain than she did when she had the other knee done without the cooling. She was up walking and able to get her complete bends both ways way ahead of the PT (physio?) schedule this time but took longer last time without the cooling. |
Putting up pictures of different ones on Amazon. Mama's was just a small styrofoam chest with a little fan less than 6" turned upside down and mounted to the lid and a hole in the bottom where the tube from the knee brace went into. I think it had a connector of some kind to hold it in place. My brother called it a red neck air conditioner with the fan upside down. Ray could easily make one for less than $20 USD, probably less than $10 if he gets a good deal on a small fan. of course, if you can't get a wrap that has air flow you would have to buy that too. Then again there are ice packs, although they aren't optimal because you have to take them off and on and they melt quickly it is better than nothing. I know that you will be going for that bend ASAP and keeping it cool will probably help.
What a neat idea!

I've never heard of these and they look awesome. They didn't mention them. They did say to ice over and under at the same time 3 times daily for 15-20 minutes. |
This would be neat if it was something you could rent too! Thanks for sharing!
