Discovered an old wood table in my parents' basement when cleaning out their house after they passed away. The table is not "fancy", but more like a small work table. I know nothing about its history, what it's made of, etc, but I like its look and want to use it. Knowing nothing about wood refinishing/restoration, the other day I applied Murphy's Oil Soap (which I already had on hand) and scrubbed off what appeared to be much of the old finish, as well as lots of dirt. But much more of the old finish remains, and it's uneven. Now what? Should I follow traditional refinishing guidelines (recently found online--using a traditional stripper, sander, and new stain) or simply apply your product? I must say, using your product sounds a lot easier! But I want to do the job right so am willing to expend the necessary time & labor. If I were to use your product, how should I do so? Please provide sufficient detail--I'm totally clueless about this sort of thing!
