Water St ain on Leather Table Top

How best if even possible to remove or lessen a large white water spot from a dark leather table top which is about 50-55 years in age? Unfortunately I may have compounded the problem by using furniture polish to attempt to remove the stain. It's not any worse, but not any better either. Help! If possible...thanks.
