Oscar
GIS #1414
Tolland, CT
Looking for a new home since 1/8/06. Oscar is still available as of May 2008!
Gender: Male
Iguana age: 5yrs old, 2000
Size -
SVL: 18 inches
STL: 58 inches
Reason for new needing a new home: I no longer have enough time to bond with him due to job requirements. I would like him to go to a home that could give him the individual attention that he deserves and devote more time to him/handle him more.
Vet care and health history: Oscar has never had any health problems. He came to me as a baby from a home that was not properly caring for him but was very young so it was caught early and has been healthy ever since he was put on the proper diet and given the proper lighting/environment.
Diet: Collard greens, chicory, escarole, dandelion greens, mustard greens, turnip greens---greens are the main part of his diet. On top he gets soy sprouts and diced green beans and fresh shredded orange-flesh squash (butternut or acorn) or shredded yam/sweet potato. Occasionally for a treat he gets banana, mango or strawberries.
Habitat and living conditions: Oscar is individually housed in a 6ft high, 4ft wide, 2ft deep enclosure made of plywood covered with linoleum tile. The doors are made of plexiglass and wood and the top is covered with a heavy screen where the lights are kept. The enclosure has shelves for basking and ramps for getting from the top to the bottom. There is a large water pan in the bottom of the enclosure. There are two day heat lamps and a UVB strip light on a timer for 12 hour light cycles. There is also a ceramic heat light for night heat.
Temperament: Oscar is a bit shy but curious and active. He has never been very aggressive but has been known to charge me during mating season and has also given me open-mouth threats during mating season. He is usually very quiet and curious but tends to hang back a bit and closes his eyes a lot to ignore me when I try to interact with him. He does like treats and will occassionally take one from my hand but is more reserved usually. He has never bit me and is very good about being pet/touched but a bit shy.
Handling: Oscar was handled daily when he was younger and I had more time at home. As he has grown and I have had to spend less time at home he has been handled less. He is relatively calm when he is held and he is touched/pet every day when I spray him down/feed/clean him. I spend time talking to him and petting him daily but do not handle him/carry him very much outside the enclosure due to lack of time.
House broken: Yes. Oscar generally uses his water pan for a toilet or if the pan has moved slightly he will use the same area that the pan is normally in for the toilet.
Included with iguana: The cage is included, the lights/fixtures/water pan/dish are also all included. All heat light fixtures are ceramic fixtures designed for high wattage or ceramic bulbs. The UVB light fixture is a 24 inch strip light fixture. The heat bulbs are Zoo Med 100 watt heat bulbs and the UVB bulb is a 5.0 Zoo Med UVB 24 inch strip bulb that is replaced every six months so will either be new or less than 6 months old. The ceramic heat bulb is an Exo Terra 100 watt bulb.
Willing to ship iguana: No. I will not ship Oscar but I am willing to transport him and his enclosure anywhere within a day's journey from my home.
