Iguana name: Harrison
GIS# 2100
Looking for a home since 11/5/09
Iguana age: 1996
SVL: 16 inches
STL: 30 inches
Gender: Female
Reason for new needing a new home: I live in a very small apartment and have recently come to live with a cat. I'm not sure if this is the reason, but Harrison has taken to going to the bathroom on the couch. Granted it's an old and extremely beat up couch, but in a very small apartment, there is a limited number of places to sit, and I don't want to sit in poo.
Until this recent occurence, Harrison was completely litter box trained, and has been since very early on. She is healthy, a bit fat, young for her age.
Vet care and health history: Harrison has not been to the vet in a while because she has had no real problems I have not been able to handle myself. I give her syringe (no needle) injections of water into her mouth about once a month to keep her hydrated. She also developes small amounts of mouth rot if I do not use iodine and antibiotic ointment about every two to three weeks. Other than that, she's completely healthy.
Diet: harrison has been raised primarily on thawed frozen peas and carrots and the occasional bowl of kale.
Habitat and living conditions: Harrison needs to sleep on blankets and stuffed animals as she is completely domesticated to the point of spoiled. I love her, but I know that someone else will be more patient with her and give her a better home.
Temperament: Harrison is always calm except for when I pat her, at which she likes to slap my hand away. It's actually pretty amusing. She has not actually btten me in years, but she has her days when she's not as friendly. Overall though, she is a pretty relaxed animal.
Handling: I pick Harrison up about once a week. I put a heavy sweatshirt on and go for it. She's probably about 15 pounds now, so her nails can easily dig in to unclothed skin. She's heavier than the cat. The more I pick her up, the tamer she becomes, even at her age.
House broken: Yes
House breaking details: Harrison, until very recently when she has taken to the couch as her toilet, goes to the bathroom in a litter box with Swheat litter. The clay litter can sometimes leave a trail and she can sometimes munch on the wheat litter.
Anything included with iguana: yes
Included with iguana: Her stuffed "Mister Bears", litter box, blankets, lights.
Willing to ship iguana: no
Other information: I would not feel right giving Harrison to a home either far away from Boston where I can not go see and check up on her or into a house setting. Harrison deserves to go into a professional setting, prefferably at a museum where handlers are knowledgeable.
