I did read somewhere on here that you needed just one slice of 'normal' bread to give enough reaction for a positive test, but surely your GPs surgery could give guidance? I'm not sure just how much gluten each individual needs to bring back the unpleasant symptoms - speaking for myself it doesn't seem to matter if its just some crumbs in the butter or a whole plateful of a meal eaten by mistake, the cramps are just as painful.
Hopefully he won't need to each much and won't suffer too badly. Still, its difficult for an adult to have to consume poison for 6 weeks - it will be hell for you all to watch a youngster on the cusp of adolescence feeling ill and rebellious for all that time.
I really feel for you (and him). ((hugs))
