Some loaves are just terrible so do try to inspect before purchase (if you can).
Also open the bread and very very gently shake to spread out the slices a bit and then reseal (giving extra room in the bag) before freezing. This should make it much easier to separate frozen the slices. Then defrost for about 20 seconds in the microwave or leave at room temperature.
Alternatively, place one or two slices in lots of small freezer bags and then freeze. (The bags can be reused for future loaves if kept somewhere safe).
