Re: Gluten free voucher scheme

Personally I'd welcome a voucher scheme. My prescriptions were stopped just over a year ago, and while we are reasonably well off it's bound to be a financial burden for many people, particularly families with more then one coeliac.
It should save the CCGs a lot of money if the vouchers given were the equivalent value of the shop prices of the food that patients used to be given on prescription. They would obviously have to be redeemable in any supermarket and the scheme would need to be subject to checks; but I think it could be made to work.
I think something needs to be done as gf food is so expensive and if patients go off the correct diet due to prices of gf food then it will cost the NHS a lot more in the long run!
A gf diet is, after all, the only treatment at the moment for us, and so those of us who get no prescriptions have really been abandoned without treatment.
