Started off about 3 weeks ago I had my annual check up and my gastro consultant said I needed a colonoscopy as it was about 10 years since the last one. Apart from the restricted diet 3 days before and the laxative (Picolax) I had to take, everything went well. The procedure was easy and they even found me a very nice GF cake to go with my tea afterwards.
A few hours after getting back home I started to get severe diarrhoea and vomiting. Eased off a bit and managed to get a few hours sleep but woke up in the early hours with a high temperature, shaking and dripping with sweat. Managed to get down stairs but in a state of near collapse, water caused immediate vomiting.
By this time (6.00 am) my wife as extremely concerned and decided to phone 111. A total waste of time, they suggested things like take me to the doctors or a drop in centre when they opened.
Finally she dialled for an ambulance. The paramedics were brilliant, comforting and professional, gave me anti sickness drug and put me on a drip, I was severly dehydrated.
Took me to A&E who again were brilliant.
A few days later still not yet right but getting there. A frightening experience for me and especially my wife who is fortunately a sensible and no nonsense person.
When I am back in action I need to find out what caused this as I don't want this again in a hurry.
