Labelling meals as GF in restaurants
Posted by HCM on 14/8/2017, 12:13:21
My son (coeliac) and husband (dairy free) ate at Zizzi's the other day, and requested meals reflecting their respective dietary requirements. Fortunately they had chosed meals which looked significantly different to each other, since when the meals arrived with little labels stuck in the food, it was apparent that all was not well! They were the opposite way around.
The food went back to the kitchen for the chef to reconsider and came back with the labels switched (I do hope they didn't physically just switch them...). No ill effects suffered by either, but it doesn't instill much confidence. Had they chosen dishes which looked similar, they could have just eaten it without questionning....
I have written to them and suggest that they might label the plate before any food is put on it, rather than the food once it's already plated up. Maybe this would give a reminder as each thing is added to the plate....
