We have just returned from our third visit to Corralejo in Fuerteventura and had some wonderful food but one restaurant set my alarm bells ringing. I spoke with them one evening over a drink and they assured me that their gf menu would be perfect for me. It was a tapas place offering 5 different dishes. I should of realised that something was wrong when the meal began. My Husband was given his crusty sliced baguette and I was given my gf sliced baguette but we were we expected to share the dips! When the 5 tapas came out the owner listed off all of the ingredients in each dish and to my horror one of them contained guinness. I told him that guinness was not gf and he told me that it was and it was ok. The other dishes sounded fine but it put me off the meal (and my Husband ate some of mine)! Once we returned home I looked up the menu online and notice that guinness is not mentioned on the menu but red beer is. Are they the same thing?
I must say that the meals at The Ugly Duckling, Sanus and Casa Manolo were faultless. Sanus has a completely gf menu and the Mum and Daughter that run Casa Manolo are coeliacs themselves. The meal at the Ugly Duckling was like a picture on a plate, tasted great and the service was first class. It is a small restaurant so you need to book in advance.
The Euro Spar in Corralejo has a massive range of gf products.
We will return but not for those tapas!
