Re: Normal result - still possible to have CD?

When I was diagnosed Coeliac, 10 years ago, I was really ill with all sorts of weird symptoms (beside frequent diarrhoea) and weighed less than 7 stone. I honestly thought that I was dying but stumbled across Coeliac Disease online and requested the blood test (as previously I'd been "diagnosed" with IBS and anxiety).
I had the EMA (Endomysial Antibody) blood test, which came back strongly positive. I was supposed to have an endoscopy too but the wait was so long and I was so ill (and so anxious about the procedure) that my GP was prepared to conclude that I was Coeliac based only on my positive EMA blood test result.
From the research that I did (and showed to my GP!) I found that it was possible to get false negatives with this blood test but that a false positive would be nigh impossible and that the test is very specific to Coeliac Disease.
After going GF 10 years ago I haven't looked back and my health has gradually recovered, though it took a long time.
So it is possible to find people in the medical profession who will diagnose just from the blood test.
