It is the leading provider of managed flexible worker services to the NHS.
It was established as a Special Health Authority in April 2004.
NHS Professionals was created to be the identifiable nationally managed NHS service for temporary staff.
At the end of the Labour government in April 2010, NHS Professionals was dissolved as a Special Health Authority and became NHS Professionals Ltd, a company wholly owned by the Secretary of State for Health.
NHSP does not receive central funding.
