BBC Rip off Food Program
Posted by Tracey on 24/4/2018, 13:28:15
Watched yesterdayís BBC program Rip off food today. It didn't mention CD in particular, however it featured how many restaurants simply arenít following the legislation in regards to knowing what ingredients were in their food. It had an undercover investigator who said they had an allergy to celery going into places to eat in Leeds and Manchester. One person didnít know what celery was, another place simply didnít check that well and was really flippant about it. The reporter had to ask several times and despite them advising that no celery was present in their food, the curry sauce had it in
Anyway it really made me aware of how lucky I am in only having CD to contend with ( normally I feel sorry for myself) as there were several people on the program who almost died when being given food when eating out and one young woman is now unable to talk or move around as she was brain dead for 6 mins after eating chicken and rice which must have contained nuts. Her parents said that the carelessness of the restaurant in Hungary not only ruined the girlís life but now she needs constant care so their lives are also ruined.
Anyway I just thought I would mention it as it did really highlight how bad some people have it when eating out and also I think in future if I think that a place I go to eat doesnít take allergies or CD seriously to complain, if not for myself for other people that may have far more serious consequences if they are unlucky enough to eat in these places.
