I was diagnosed late with Coeliac at age 37 after having suffered symptoms for well over a decade and many GPs telling me it was all in my head. It was really only a fluke I was diagnosed at all by a GP fresh out of training and on the ball. So that was years of gluten damaging my body.
The Coeliac disease also caused premature ovarian failure so I went through an early menopause before age 40. I only found this out when I was trying for a family so was doubly gutted if the Coeliac had of been diagnosed in time this could have been prevented.
But my main concern now is that one auto immune condition can lead to others being diagnosed. I have several friends with thyroid problems and diabetes so I know this is well documented.
My hair loss is now getting worse and my hairdresser gave out a gasp when she was washing my hair a few weeks ago at two major patches of hair loss at my nape that were not there a few weeks ago. I felt so embarrassed and close to tears and have not been back since evern though she has been my hairdresser for more than 10 years and knows me well.
The top of my scalp is sore and it feels like there are small lumps there and there is also more thinning. All this I relayed to my GP. An internet search (Never a good thing I know) indicates I may have Lupus as in addition to hair loss I have pains in my legs, knees and hands which is worse in the morning. Basically if I kneel down I can't get up again! I am 56 of keep myself active with lots of walking so it's not old age. I have a good friend with both Coeliac and Lupus who is currently away on holiday. But I was wondering if anybody on the board has Lupus also and can advise me.
Sorry for the long post but I am so upset that I have to fight for treatment at the doctors and symptoms are not taken seriously. After all we are experts on our bodies and know when things are amiss.
Thank you for reading.
