I don't know if it starts afterwards or that it was there already but the same happened to us in our family. We didn't go lactose free at the beginning and of course it's not so much lactose that is the problem for us. There are four of us in our family of five with CD and dairy intolerance. I think it is a difficulty with digesting the proteins in milk (and sometimes eggs too if we have too many) - we don't get quite so wiped out if we have milk products as we would with gluten, but we do end up with diarrhoea. Our youngest son, now 30, can tolerate some dairy but then developed eczema which was resolved when he went dairy free again.
