I've written and spoken about the need for comparative food baskets many times over the past year. |
What is needed is a group of people to be divided into groups each of two persons. Each two person 'group' to cover the same required products from one selected supermarket. The 'selected' supermarket to be chosen from any one of the following:
and so on, to include Tesco, Waitrose, Morrison, Asda, Aldi, Lidl, and M&S
The basket to exclude bread, flour and pasta, but to include:
+basic tomato cook in sauce
+canned vegetable soup (say cream of mushroom)
+frozen Lasagne Bolognese
+frozen mushroom pizza
+vegetable bake topped with cheese
+mixed pickle (Piccalli type) for cheese
+and perhaps another 6 products to total 15 products
The percentage differences will be noticeable between the gluten free basket and the conventional 'economy' basket in, I believe, all cases.
The results would be good PR and could be directed towards the media who seem to focus only on pasta, bread and flour.... and being gluten free is about so much more.
I fear that it is probably late in the day to do this, but then, perhaps better late than never.
I know someone on the Board commented some months ago that they would be willing to do this.
Are there more out there who can see the merit of actually getting the full facts out? That gluten free shopping is more expensive for very many products used on a day to day basis? I'd estimate that a minimum of 36 people would be required - that would provide information from 18 outlets.
Thoughts from Members of the Board?
