Posted by Old Grey No. Gothic is a term applied to art, literature and architecture which appeals to the macabre, dark nature and rough or unfinished texture, as opposed to classical themes, lines and subjects. The term has been used as such literally for centuries. The gothic subculture (only decades old) has everything to do with the music genre identified as such, and is only tangentially associated with the older meaning of gothic, although most goths would probably have a better appreciation for gothic themes than non-goths. It is thus possible, as I am, to be almost wholly "gothic" and not be "a goth" at all. Old Grey
