Life was sooooooo less complicated before my wife started dabbling in geneaology.

All my life (remember, longer than almost any two of the regulars here combined, Tass excluded) I have believed family lore that my father was of German-Jew heritage and mother was some English and a little Scotch-Irish.

Okay, so we have found out that maternally, I'm mainly English, with a small bit of Irish. Must have been more than a "wee" bit, cause the Celtic is coming out strong in me lately.

But here's the hoot: It seems that my father's family is mostly English from as far back as we can reasonably be certain, with a strong possibility of deeper ties to a region (long ago and far away) in Gaul populated by . . .

    (drum roll)

    . . . Visigoths.

Well, I'll be darned. Looks like I'm a "goth" after all.

    (Visi)Goth and proud of it!
