Goth is not about being all doom and gloom, that's one of the main misconceptions that get's spread about. Nor is goth about not being interested in love or family and structure. People in goth subculture are just like anybody else. They fall in love, they have families, they may have children, they have jobs or are in school or university. It's not about 'dropping out' of life. In the goth subculture there are people who homosexual, bisexual and straight and all the spaces inbetween. There's no rules saying you have to be gay to be goth. You're suppposed to be yourself. Goth is not a phase either but things like moody anti-social behaviour can be. But you need to examine and think further about what you mean by your daughter being 'doom and gloom'. If it's just that she's wearing black, is quiet and shy and not an outgoing bouncy person than I wouldn't worry at all. Everybody is different and you can't expect everyone to be happy smiley people all the time. On the otherhand it could be serious if she has all the symptoms of clinical depression than you need to seek professional advice. Again that is something not caused by 'being goth' or hanging around goths, it seems to be more the case that those who are depressed are drawn to the goth subculture.
