Black Cobra .. VERY interesting point regarding why we may be attempting to define a subculture .. I"m going to have to think about that one for a while ... I wonder what a person who is 100% Goth be like? Would this be a person we would really like or would we run screaming into the hills at the sight of this individual? :-D --Previous Message-- : As I have writen. I have found lot of great : people between goths and none of them is : 100% goth. everyone is unique and dont need : to be different than he is. These people : just want to be themselves and that is what : I like. I have spent too much time by triing : to be "normal" and I have enought : of it. I have learned that it is better to : be myself and if someone dont like it I have : no reason co care about his opinion. And : about this "checklist": I donīt : know how it is in other countries but there : is A LOT of teenagers that call themselves : goths even when they donīt know anything : about it. People donīt care about : "Goths" but when they see some : poseur that is cuting himself because : "goths do that" or does some other : stupid things they will judge everyone in : black clothes as one of these. I think that : is why are people trying to somehow define : Subculture. Even if you donīt care about : what people think about you it can cause you : some trouble. It is sad because all people : in this scene that I know are inteligent, : polite, funny and overaly good people. So it : is not very nice to be judged for things : that you have never done. : : --Previous Message-- : : I am responding to this because the question : actually houses a problem I now see with the : goth community ... : : At one time we were about self-expression, : individuality and self-identity. When did a : checklist develop? When was there a criteria : that was created that a person has to meet : to be considered goth? : : I don't know you, but my guess is that if : you think you fit in the goth culture, at : this point in your life, you do. If you : don't fit the stereotype completely, don't : worry about it. I don't fit it completely, : but once people start talking to me, they : usually figure it out. : --Previous Message-- : : It was more than 8 months ago when I have : found this site and asked this question and : now im back to say: THANK YOU!!! : I have found out that there are no Clubs or : hangouts preffered by goths (There is 5,5 : millions of people in my country so try to : gues how many of them are goths?) but I have : found slovak Site about goth subculture ( : http://gothique.forumn.biz/ ) And there : I : have found LOT of great people and beutifull : new music (mostly darkwave and gothic rock). : You have helped me to find out taht there is : more people like me so thank you again. : --Previous Message-- : Yes, it is not all clubs that are nice. : It seems to be very local, how goth is : perceived, but perhaps if there are : coffeebars or computercafes where the local : goths hang out, it is a better place to meet : them. while they are not drunk. : You could also try to check out goth.net. It : is a much bigger site than this one, which : has been all but dead for a copple of years. : They have a subforum, where goths from all : over the world can meet and talk with people : from their own country. Perhaps you are : lucky, and find a few slovakian goths there. : The goth culture is based on and evolving : around the music. But of course you can : enjoy and listen to all kinds of non goth : music also. : I don't think there is one famous gothband, : that isn't inspired by other genres. : : Tass : : --Previous Message-- : I'm not sure why but when I found e-mail : from : this site I was bit nervous but now I'm : really happy. : I'm From slovakia but most of my knowledges : about english language are from PC games, : films, music and something from school. : Mostly from music this time. : I was asking because Slovak gothic scene is : very small and relatively close minded. Lot : of them think's that if you like metal you : cannot be goth and if you think that any : metal have something gothic you must be : stupid. I must search internet if there are : Any gothic clubs or something like that... : If there are some I would go to see them. It : will my second visit of ANY club in mz life. : I was in one club oce and I will never go : there again. There was crowd of idiots with : no interest's and too loud Techno music : playing. If you want to drink alcohol and : find some girls it is great place but if you : want to find someone to talk with and have : fun witout drugs and alcohol you have : nothing to do there. : --Previous Message-- : You are so gothic that on a 1-10 scale of : how : gothic you can be, you would get 11. : You should check out your local goth : hangouts, I think you would feel at home : there. : : Are you Scandinavian? I ask because of your : choice in music, and the way you write : english? : : I'm honestly a bit puzzled about your post. : I find it hard to believe, that someone can : fit all the gothic stereotypes so well, and : still be in doubt whether you are gothic. : But you seem serious, so I have answered you : the same way. : If you are Danish, which I think you might : be, you should check out 'Faust' and 'The : Black Cat'. : Just google it, and you will find it. : On their sites, you'll find links to shops : and events, that might interest you. : : Tass : : : : : : : : : : : :
