If you put it like that, then I could say that, based upon the fact that many modern Wiccans are somewhat gothic by nature, then the gothic subculture has its origins in the goddess/nature worshipping cultures that developed around 30,000 years ago. See how silly that argument is? It is by pure happenstance that many people who are attracted to gothic music and the goth subculture also are attracted to life's darker side in many, if not most, other respects. And that includes literature. All that said, it remains that the gothic subculture that we have all come to know and love today is a purely musically-related movement beginning in the late 70's as the site clearly states.
