Yes it is sad. I don't know, perhaps contact with other people has become too easy. You don't have to put any effort into it.
And somehow that undermines real conversation, and contact with other people becomes a means to keep silence at bay. To avoid the horrid situation that you should be alone with yourself and your thougts.
There is nothing new in that. I'm old enough to remember transistor radios. Here in Denmark we had a tradition for going on picnics in the forrest at weekends; but now people brought their transistor radios. So no more listening to the blackbird singing his evening song, or the sound of the whispering leaves.
But at least people could still talk. At least if they did it loud enough. Then came the walkman. And then people could talk no more.
Now we have got all these new ways of talking to each other; but we only use it for innane meaningless chit chat: 'Hey! Wassup?' 'Nothing really! You?' 'Nah, not doing anything either' 'Kay..see you!' 'See you!'
And then you call a new one and the same thing goes over and over again.
Or you talk to one of your half million 'friends' on My Space or Twitter or what it is called; but it is the same meaningless junktalk.
No real interest in the other person or in a subject. Just keeping silence at bay.

: 2007 at the absolute latest. That was a year I

: I guess myspace and facebook have just about

: It's always good to hear from the old
