Hrmpf!! Emily Autumn. I noticed her early in her carreer. She had only made a promo EP Which she was selling in a limited edition.
I sent the money expecting to get the EP. Nothing happened! Not to me or to lots of other people all over the world! For a loong time..
Then suddenly we have a sobbing Emily Autumn on her Myspace or what it was called at that time, telling us, that somone had broken into her home, her socalled Asylum, and stolen her computer. The computer with all the info on, about who had sent money for the EP...!!
Okaaay.. So she takes thousands of dollars from her fans and she keeps the info on her harddrive and nowhere else? That is either a big fat lie or very irresponsible!
But what happened was, what she, or rather those who promote, her knew would happen: A lot of her fans, her Pumpkins as she called them, started sobbing too, and told her how sorry they were, and that she could just keep the money they had sent for the CD.
Well, Im not her her little Pumpkin. I'm a customer who sent her good money for a merchandize I never received.
So all of us cruel hearted nonpumpkins who still wanted either our money back or our EP, got an E-mail address. Which didn't work. And then another which didn't work either, but which she happily claimed worked.
And after a while she was happy to announce, that now all her little pumpkins had got their EPs. Which the little pumpkins hadn't. It was obvious from the more and more annoyed posts on the Myspace site, but those posts were ignored. The only ones she answered, were those few who actually got their EP.
Now, I'm not so naive that I think I actually sent the money to her personally in her Asylum.
Emily Autumn is invented, and there are no doubt some very clever men behind her, who knew, that after loosing the names of the people who sent the money, this way would be the right way to handle it. And it was! She even got more popular among her devoted little pumpkins. Who all were soo happy that nothing had happened to her, during the burglary in her Asylum.
Invented or not, I think Emily Autumn is very talented, and I liked the music. I thought it was brilliant and something new, but I can't listen to her, because the mere thought of her, gets me going like I just did, just because you mentioned her. Not because of the few dollars it cost me, but because of that degrading way, I and a lot of others were treated in this.
All riled up Tass
(who actually still got the receipt for the 'purchase')
: You just have to know where to look! A good
: place to start is going to gigs put on by
: goth clubs in your area (or if there aren't
: any then go further afield), in the UK a lot
: of clubs host gigs by newer goth bands and
: events such as band nights and festivals.
: It's a good way of finding out what's out
: there. You can also find out by checking out
: Unscene magazine. They interview bands and
: do reviews every issue as well as give a
: free cd compilations. Among the newer bands
: some of my favourites include Uninvited
: Guest, Ghost of Lemora and Zombina and the
: Skeletones. You still also get bands that
: may not necessarily be goth but are popular
: among goths like The Birthday Massacre and
: Emilie Autumn.

: I'm curious about something: When
: goth music I keep hearing the same thing,
: about The Cure, Souxie Soux and all that,
: and it strikes me that even though these
: were good old goth bands, they are from
: decades ago. I mention Nightwish and
: Midnight Syndicate to people and they like
: to tell me that stuff isn't defined as Goth.
: I'm merely curious as to other people's
: opinions, but since these bands involve dark
: imagery, sometimes of vampires, sometimes of
: legends and mythology, and purely haunted
: house imagery (Midnight Syndicate) I
: wondered what the difference is. I listen
: to these groups all the time, they are
: I'm curious why people are so hung up on the
: hard metal scene or why bands like these
: dont figure into the picture.
: Again, just my curiosity. I consider myself
: very goth, and these are among bands I
: listen to. :)
