I know this thread is old but for anyone who's still interested in this subject there's an academic book on the subject by Dunja Brill called: "Goth Culture: Gender, Sexuality & Style".

I haven't read it yet but intend to. It looks like an interesting book. Goths interviewed in the book are from Germany, the UK and US.
