Marie Poyner was a beloved friend to many of us, mentor, educator, and ig mommy to 3 green kids. Her untimely departure from this world on 9-10-06 left a huge gap in this message board and in our hearts. She had been a moderator on the board for several years, and gave unselfishly of her time and talents. Many of you have asked how you can help. After careful discussion among the GIS team, we have made an unprecidented decision to set up a fund in her honor, to help with ongoing veterianry expenses for Dragon, and possibly for Baby. Her good friend Stephanie, in Canada, agreed to take them out of her love and admiration for Marie, but Dragon will always be an expensive gal to maintain. She is currently staying with Marie's friend Patrick, in Clevland until logistics can be worked out. Stephanie was finally able to move Baby in Dec. 2006. You may make donations through a paypal account in addition to sending checks through the mail. We have just upgraded the palpal account to accept credit cards. We have agreed to consolodate the donations, keep them in the "Marie Poyner Fund" paypal account, and when they incur vet bills, they will send us a copy of the invoice and we will send them the funds to cover it, up to the amount we have in her account. We expect this to be an onging need for a while, and your generosity will be greatly appreciated. This is an unusual situation, but since Marie was one of our own, we feel the need to try to help care for those she left behind.
