sounds like you are doing great--not afraid of him or his bite. That's always a big step for any ig owner--knowing not to freak or pull away. His bite seems like just a 'love' bite-not a domination bite--those are the bad ones. I think he'll level out when he sees he can trust you. He will learn he cannot dominate you. He is so lucky for you to come into his life! You will be a terrific iggy mommy!
