I recently adopted a rescue iguana who is very aggressive and not at all ok with being handled. I want to give her the best care possible without stressing her out too much so I have some questions about bathing.
Taking her out of her cage to bathe is really not an option as handling her just stresses her out too much (not to mention that she bites, scratches and tail whips me) so I am thinking about adding a large water feature to her enclosure. She currently has a big cat litter tray filled with water that she lies in but she can't swim in it because it is too small.
My plan is to get a small rigid-sided pond, plumb a drain into the bottom so that it can be easily cleaned and build a frame for it with sloping sides so that she can easily get into it. I would leave this in her cage all the time so that she is free to swim whenever she wants. I am thinking of a design similar to the link so that she has shallow parts and deep parts and I would probably add some rocks around the edges so that she can climb out easily.
Now onto the questions. I have read that iguanas can easily drown, I really don't want to hurt her so does this seem like a bad idea? Should I use a filter/air bubbler or is standing water ok?
